FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
SOCIETY OF HAPPY PEOPLE CELEBRATES 21st ANNUAL HAPPINESS HAPPENS MONTH
Operation #SmileStarter challenges people to smile at least 31 times in 31 days to reap beneficial mental and emotional benefits during these troubling times
DALLAS, TX (Viz Release) July 28, 2020 – – On August 1, the Society of Happy People (SOHP) will launch their 21st Happiness Happens Month, an annual event celebrated globally with an Operation #SmileStarter theme this year that encourages people to find at least one reason to smile each day of the month.
Those who sign up to smile at least 31 times in 31 days will receive a #SmileStarter Challenge Activities calendar with suggested daily activities ranging from thanking a cashier, pampering yourself and taking a treat to a neighbor to posting a funny meme, donating to a foodbank or telling a parent they’re doing a good job. They’ll also get a #SmileStarter Pledge and Operation #SmileStarter graphics that can be shared on their social media platforms, by text or in emails to encourage others to start smiles of their own.
Although the positive energy-focused organization has commemorated this month-long celebration every summer for more than two decades, this year’s Happiness Happens Month is needed more than ever as people around the world struggle with feelings of anxiety, loneliness and depression during the Covid-19 pandemic.
“In the midst of these uncertain, unsettling and unprecedented times, finding happiness is more important than ever,” explains SOHP founder Pamela Gail Johnson. “When we’re worried about our health, our jobs, our kids’ safety at school, and other Happiness Zappers – and wondering when or if our lives will ever become normal again – is when we need to find and celebrate happy moments the most. Because while our lives and daily routines may be different now, happiness is universal – it makes us feel good, it raises our vibe, and even makes us smile.”
On August 8th, the 22nd Happiness Happens Day, the #SmileStarter Challenge activity will be to wear a mask that makes you and others smile. “Since masks are a way to help keep everyone healthy and happy, and it appears we’ll be wearing them for a while, we might as well let them be something that starts a few smiles too,” added Johnson.
SOHP is also looking for Happiness Happens Month Smile Supporters to share Operation #SmileStarter and their #SmileStarter Challenge with more people. For a $5 Love Exchange, individual or company names can be listed on the Happiness Happens Month Smile Supporter Wall, with larger donation sponsorships available for organizations who’d like to do more.
